I have been a Sawyer County resident since 1967 when I graduated from Willowbrook High School in Villa Park, Illinois, and moved here with my parents, Bob and Del Doskocil, and my sister, Cheryl (Paine). It was then Dad and Mom bought Beechmoor Resort on Whitefish Lake in Stone Lake. They added cabins and the current restaurant and built it into the landmark business it is today. They owned and operated Beechmoor until 1985 when they condo-ed off the cabins and sold the restaurant. Not bad for an ex-machinist and his wife who never finished high school and never owned a business before. They still "chucked it all" for the opportunity for a better life for their family. They succeeded. Their example of setting worthwhile goals and working hard, real hard, to achieve these goals has been an inspiration for me even to this day.

I attended college at University of Wisconsin-Superior and came back to the area 4 1/2 years later in 1971 with a degree in Speech Education, Sociology and Mass Communication. I worked at WRLS-FM radio in Hayward as News Director and announcer (little bit of trivia… Dick Bender took my place as the "morning guy" back in the early 70's), later went to work as a writer with Northern Outdoor News, then went into selling advertising there, my first experience in sales.

Having tasted the rewards of a sales career, I went into the insurance field for the next 24 years working mainly with businesses writing group health insurance as a direct agent for Blue Cross Blue Shield United of Wisconsin and WPS Insurance among others.

After a wonderful insurance career where all of Northwestern Wisconsin was my office, I got my real estate license in 1994 and have been an active agent for the past 3 1/2 years. Seeing an opportunity to work for a bright new company in the Hayward area, I recently decided to accept my present position as Broker Associate with Big Bear Realty.

My wife, Sheila, is a beautician at Debbie's Hair Design in Hayward where she has been employed for over 20 years. We have 4 children between us, (Jason, Shane, Jenny and Staci) and they have given us 9 remarkable grandchildren. We have a whole tree of "apples of our eyes".

I have been an Elder and Treasurer at Christian Fellowship Church (non-denominational) in Hayward for the past 20+ years, and have been a member since 1977. Sheila and I were married there in 1995. To unwind, I enjoy buying and selling antiques and collectibles. Lots of fun to see all the things I had as a kid that people are willing pay big bucks for. ("Mom, why did you clean my closet when I went off to college??") Always fascinating and the people you meet are great.
